Much needed. Since it’s now 2009 it only seemed fit. Especially since I’ve found that when something is in writing, people take it more seriously. Understandable by all means.

If you caught my prior posts, great. You know me quite well by now. If you haven’t, you will. I intend for this blog to be a TRUE account of who I am. I live and breathe advertising and branding every day, but I do have a soul deep down inside. We all do. I think. This blog will make it a point to do just that. Enjoy the small things in life. Make every day count for something. Seek inspiration from new sources. Isn’t that what advertising is supposed to do anyways?

I can’t help but look back at 2008 and think that it was a great year. Here’s why:

• Had my first class with Coz Cotzias and got some work out of it and grew some thick (thick, thick) skin
• Pitched X-Games to execs from ESPN as part of Strategic Branding course (we won!)
• VCU Adcenter became VCU Brandcenter and the Opening House was a blast
• Saw the B-52s in concert and instantly became a fan all over again.
• Interned at McKinney in Durham, NC. Spent my summer there working on Virgin Atlantic, NASDAQ, Qwest, Wachovia pitch, Travelocity, and abovethe influence. Worked with Dave Cook, Matt Fischvogt (Adcenter alum) and Liz Paradise. Actually got work produced (see Virgin Atlantic’s Airphoria campaign and Travelocity iguana)
• Won the FutureLions / Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival
• Father had a heart attack. Even though this was not good news there was some good to it. I got to see family that I had not seen in years. All in all, it was a great lesson that family is first, no matter what. My father is doing fine and is no longer smoking.
• My partner Jason became Director New Student Orientation at VCU.
• Saw Madonna live in concert.
• Was a part of one of the greatest elections of all-time. OBAMA!! Volunteered in a campaign for the first time ever.
• Worked with the Muhammad Ali Center as part of a class assignment.
• Work published  in CMYK Magazine.
• Actually enjoyed the holidays.

2008 was great. I just hope that 2009 is even better. There’s a lot to look forward to… last semester, finding a job, finding a new home, and getting healthy again. Fingers crossed, smiling.

  1. Airphoria… you should check out http://www.airphoria.co.uk if you want to learn about the real excitement and anticipation of flying (beating Virgin by a few years I believe)

    • I think I remember coming across this when we were doing the campaign. Certainly was a talking point in our meetings. Did you do this? Very cool!!
